Needlepoint Foundations (3 hours)
Not just for beginners. Yes, we will go over basics but we also answer a lot of tricky questions such as “why does my basketweave look “stripey?” and more.
The end goal is that everyone who leaves the class feels confident to complete a basic to advanced basic project.
Needlepoint Foundations Class Description:
This workshop focuses on the foundational aspects of needlepoint. It is perfect for the beginner stitcher and advanced stitcher alike. Or, anyone wanting a refresher on the proper techniques for needlepoint. During this three hour workshop, we learn the whys and the hows of needlepoint, ranging from the topic of stretcher bars (yes! we will learn how to put them together!), selecting the proper needle size for both canvas mesh sizes commonly used in needlepoint and why it matters, the various anchoring techniques and deciding the best way to tie off, and determining where on the canvas start with tent stitches and in which direction to stitch. In addition to the techniques to successfully start stitching, we will also discuss the different types of threads used in needlepoint, how to properly stitch them and practice using the proper tools. We will also learn about continental and basketweave and addressing the pesky problems ("stripey look," ridges, and air pockets) and how to solve them as well as cultivating habits to stitch your best basketweave.
